PMHNP Preceptorship Experience Bundle

$600 Per Semester or Quarter

A structured PMHNP clinical experience designed to help students strengthen psychiatric assessment skills, clinical judgment, medication selection, documentation, and confidence in practice.

Program Purpose

The purpose of the PMHNP Preceptorship Experience Program is to provide PMHNP students with a structured, supportive clinical learning experience that bridges the gap between academic knowledge and real-world psychiatric practice.

The program is designed to help students strengthen their ability to:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments

  • Develop differential diagnoses

  • Apply clinical judgment to patient care

  • Select safe and appropriate psychiatric medications

  • Improve documentation and EHR skills

  • Communicate effectively with patients

  • Build confidence before entering independent practice

  • Identify areas that require additional learning or support

Through orientation, mock patient exercises, observation, supervised clinical visits, individualized feedback, and post-clinical discussions, students will have opportunities to apply what they have learned in school within a safe and respectful environment.

The overall goal is to provide a high-quality, nonjudgmental, and engaging clinical experience that supports student growth while emphasizing safe, ethical, and evidence-based psychiatric care.

What’s Included

  • One full semester or quarter of clinical experience

  • 3 virtual or in-person orientation meetings before seeing live patients

  • EHR orientation and login practice

  • Mock psychiatric assessments with feedback

  • Clinical judgment and medication-selection exercises

  • One dedicated observation day

  • Post-clinical discussions and individualized feedback

  • 4 mock patient worksheets

  • Digital PMHNP resource packet

  • PMHNP licensure guide based on your state of residence

  • Access to reach out during normal business hours with questions or concerns

How the Experience Works

Before participating in live patient visits, each student will complete 3 virtual or in-person orientation meetingsfocused on becoming familiar with the clinical environment, EHR, login process, assessment workflow, documentation expectations, and clinical decision-making.

Students will complete mock patient assessments and receive feedback regarding strengths and areas that may need additional development before transitioning to live patient care.

Each student will then be assigned an individual observation day to observe psychiatric assessments and participate in a post-clinical discussion at the end of the workday.

After successfully completing the orientation meetings, mock assessments, and observation experience, students will begin participating in weekly patient visits on their assigned clinical day.

Your Learning Environment

My goal is to create a safe, supportive, engaging, respectful, and nonjudgmental learning environment while helping enhance your educational experience and prepare you to practice safely and confidently.

There are no silly questions. Students are encouraged to ask questions, discuss areas of uncertainty, and be open about concepts they may not fully understand.

You are here to learn. I was once a student too, and even as practicing clinicians, we continue learning throughout our careers.

Students may reach out during normal business hours with questions or concerns. Post-clinical discussions will also provide opportunities to review patient encounters, clinical reasoning, medications, documentation, and areas where additional support may be beneficial.

My goal is for you to leave your clinical experience with stronger skills, greater confidence, and a better understanding of real-world psychiatric practice.

I look forward to providing you with a meaningful and enjoyable clinical experience.
